Today was filled with all the simple things in life. I woke up before the alarm to a windless day and sun shining through my curtains making pretty shadows on my bedroom wall. While I lay there waking up I felt such comfort in my homemade quilt that I was snuggled under. When I got up there was a love note from my husband sitting on the kitchen table that said “Mondays come too fast, I will miss you today. Love, Kraig”. Now tell me this isn’t a perfect way to wake up on a Monday morning!
After feeding my four constant companions (dogs) and gathering the scraps for my little chickens awaiting me in their coop, I sat in my swing and enjoyed a nice glass of orange juice while I caught up on the happenings on Facebook. It was an unusually silent morning and the still warm air just felt good on my face. I fed my little hens and watched as they pecked at the toe of my boot and waited for a little scrap to be dropped for them, and all I could think is how much I loved my silly little chickens.
I did several loads of laundry and hung them on my clothesline, which I find to be one of the coolest things I do when it comes to chores. I love the smell of line dried clothes and it is a good thing for my utility bills as well! I started some bread dough to rise and cleaned and mopped floors, did the bathroom and swept the back porch. The smell of a clean house and the shine on a bathroom shower makes me feel a sense of accomplishment.
So many now don’t understand the love I have for being a “housewife” but today the simple pleasures I encountered made me realize this is the exact place that God intended me to be. He shows me to love what I have and want for nothing more. Days like today are here to keep me reminded of the blessings we have in our little house on the prairie!
What are your simple pleasures ? Do you take the time to find the simple pleasures in everyday tasks? It sure makes the day go by so much nicer when you do!
